Grindelwald

The Jungfraujoch area includes the slopes of Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren. There are approximately 210km of ski runs.

Grindelwald has two separate areas. The First area is south facing, with a good variety of runs, mainly for intermediates. In this area are also found the two Zip wires - The Flyer and Glider - both free with the lift pass. There is also a cliff walk, which is not for those afraid of heights. The main ski area spreads out from Kleine Scheidegg towards Mannlichen and Wengen. The famous Lauberhorn downhill course heads down to Wengen from here.

The amazing new lift station at Terminal has two high speed, modern lifts to the upper slopes or the railway to Kleine Scheidegg provides a more leisurely ride . There are long blue and red runs down to the valley from the upper areas.

Well worth the reduced price with a lift pass is the ride through the Eiger North Face to the Jungfraujoch. The views from the top are magnificent and the train terminals are huge feats of engineering. There is an interesting tour at the Jungfraujoch and Sphinx Observatory.

There are many excellent restaurants on the slopes. Prices are reasonable and service and quality of food puts restaurants in the big French resorts to shame.

We stayed at the Hotel Derby, about 30 metres from the railway station. I highly recommend this hotel. See the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.
