If it's your first experience of North American skiing, Summit County is the place to go. Breckenridge has skiing for every standard and there always seems to be plenty of powder somewhere in the area. The resorts of Copper, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin are within easy driving distance, as are Vail and Beaver Creek. All can be reached using the local bus service but it's worth checking this out.

 

If you've got a hire car, Steamboat is worth a day's visit.

 

Breckenridge has many good restaurants, although the mountain restaurants are a bit soulless. Keystone has extensive night skiing and at least one very good mountain restaurant.
